2nd Place

2nd: The Face of Defeat

2nd: The Face of Defeat

I came across this photography book today, which has a very compelling subject matter: people in 2nd place.  Very well shot, the pictures just bounce off each page.  What is so interesting are the facial reactions of the people portrayed -  some clearly look anguished, others look like they’re posing to comply with what they would expect the photographer wants to see, which is a statement within itself.  What I like was the facial expressions where many of the subjects appear to be still thinking about their recent defeat, racking their mind of the “what if”, ah, the joy of placing second.
